The Institute for Law and Finance (ILF) was established in 2002 as a foundation of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main with the support of  supervisory authorities, banks and law firms. The ILF promotes academic education, research and professional experience in the fields of law and finance. The international education of students and permanent exchange between academia and professionals at the ILF contribute to the further development of Frankfurt as a leading financial center as well as to the strength of the German market place in the realm of European competition.

Frankfurt plays a central role in European and global finance. The ILF, which is located in Frankfurt, the major financial center in Europe, provides the ideal location to train young professionals to deal with the legal and financial challenges facing a Europe with 27 states in the European Union and beyond.

» Internationality

The LL.M. Finance program is international in every respect: our curriculum, our faculty and our students. The courses offered by the LL.M. Finance program include European and international corporate law, the law on capital markets and securities as well as topics on European monetary policies and central banking. The LL.M. Finance degree program also offers a wide range of courses on specialized topics such as “Accounting”, “Insurance Law” and “Law of Corporate Taxation”. Our large faculty comes from over ten countries in Europe and the United States. In addition, our students come from all over the world – generally from more than 25 countries each year.

ILF Class Graduation on Friday, 16 July 2010

On Friday, 16 July 2010 at 7.00 p.m, the ILF Graduating Class of 2010 celebrated the successful completion of the academic year 2009/10 with their family, friends, and members of the ILF boards and faculty. It was a happy occasion for all at the annual ILF Graduation Event held on Campus Westend. 

Mr. Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank and Chairman of ILF Academic Advisory Board gave the welcome address to the class.

Mr. Trichet spoke about the support which the European Central Bank has been giving to the ILF since its establishment in 2002 to provide high-level academic and professional training to lawyers and managers in financial industry. He emphasised the strong relationship between the ECB and the ILF as seen from the fact that a number of experts at the ECB are lecturers of the LL.M. Finance program, that ILF students do their internships at the ECB, that ILF students are employed by the ECB and that he heads the academic advisory board. The financial world has seen changes since the recent economic and financial crisis and ILF graduates have been taught the skills necessary to face the challenging issues of our time. He congratulated our graduates on their achievements and wished them a successful career ahead.

LL.M. Finance in Frankfurt for Law, Business and Economics Graduates - New Program will start on 12 October 2010!

The Institute for Law and Finance offers career-oriented training in law and finance in the European financial center, Frankfurt. The program leading to the professional degree, LL.M. Finance, is conducted entirely in English. It provides students with valuable internship experiences at international institutions, companies and law firms. More
